Subnets

The work on Bittensor happens in subnets. A subnet is a market for one kind of job.

There are more than a hundred subnets, and they do very different things. Some rent out computing power. Some run or train AI models. Others make forecasts, collect and store data, hunt for security flaws, or work on science such as drug discovery.

Each subnet sets its own rules for what good work looks like and how it is measured. Each has an owner, who sets those rules, and its own number, called a netuid, that identifies it on the network.

So Bittensor is not one project. It is many markets running side by side, each paying for a different kind of useful work.
