Deregistration
Bittensor has room for 128 subnets. When all the slots are taken, a new registration triggers the removal of an existing subnet. The new subnet is created once the removed one has been cleared out, so it can take a little while to appear.
The subnet it removes is the one with the lowest average price, measured in TAO and smoothed over time so a short spike does not decide the outcome. Price is the only test the chain applies.
New subnets are protected. A subnet cannot be removed for its first 60 days. After that it is judged like any other. If every subnet is still inside its protected window when someone tries to register, the registration fails and nothing is removed.
Registrations are also spaced at least 2 days apart, so removals cannot happen in rapid succession.
For a trader, a subnet's age and its price relative to the others both matter. The subnet at the bottom of the ranking is the one at risk, and the protected period only delays that. The 60 days and the 2 days are current values and can change.
