Set up my Ledger in the Crucible extension

Connect your Ledger hardware wallet to the Crucible Chrome extension over USB and keep your TAO secure.

Overview

Secure your TAO by connecting your Ledger hardware wallet to Crucible. Crucible uses the Polkadot app to interface with the Bittensor network.

Prerequisites

A Ledger Nano X, S Plus, Flex, or Stax.
Chrome Browser with the Crucible Extension installed.
Polkadot App installed on your Ledger. (If you haven’t done this yet, see Preparing Your Ledger for Bittensor)

Connect my Ledger

Start the import: Open the Crucible extension and click I already have a wallet.
Choose Ledger: On the “How do you want to import your wallet?” screen, select Ledger.
Get your Ledger ready: Plug in your Ledger with a data-enabled USB cable and unlock it. Open the Polkadot app on the device.
Grant USB access: On the “Enable USB access for your Ledger device” screen, click Connect. When Chrome shows a pop-up, select your Ledger and click Connect.
Select an address: Choose the address you want to use. Click Show more addresses if you don’t see the one you’re looking for, then click Confirm.
Finish up: Crucible imports your wallet, then shows “Connected.” Click Go to my wallet to get started.

Note: Already have a Crucible wallet and want to add a Ledger account? Open Add account, choose Import existing account, then select Ledger and follow the steps above.

Important: Crucible never asks for your Ledger’s recovery phrase. Your keys stay on the device, and anyone who asks you for the phrase is a scammer.

Quick fixes

“Polkadot app is not open”: Open the Polkadot app on your Ledger screen, then click Try again.
Still stuck after granting USB access: Close the Polkadot app on your Ledger, reopen it, and try again.
Ledger Live: Make sure the Ledger Live desktop app is closed, since it can block the connection to Chrome.
Connection failed: Check that you’re using a data-sync USB cable (some cables only charge) and that the Polkadot app is open on the device screen.
