Set up my Ledger in the Crucible mobile app

Connect your Ledger hardware wallet to the Crucible mobile app over Bluetooth and keep your TAO secure.

Overview

Keep your TAO secure by connecting your Ledger hardware wallet to the Crucible app over Bluetooth. Crucible uses the Polkadot app on your Ledger to talk to the Bittensor network.

Note: Using the Crucible browser extension instead? See Set up my Ledger in the Crucible extension.

Prerequisites

  • A Ledger with Bluetooth: Nano X, Flex, or Stax.
  • The Crucible app installed on your phone.
  • The Polkadot app installed on your Ledger. (If you haven’t done this yet, see Preparing my Ledger for Bittensor.)

Connect my Ledger

  1. Start the import: Open the Crucible app and tap I already have a wallet.
  2. Choose Ledger: On the “How do you want to import your wallet?” sheet, tap Ledger.
  3. Choose Bluetooth: On the “Connect your Ledger” screen, tap Via Bluetooth. If your phone asks to allow Bluetooth access, tap Allow.
  4. Get your Ledger ready: Follow the four setup screens, tapping Continue after each one: power on your Ledger, unlock it with your PIN, turn on Bluetooth on the device, and open the Polkadot app. Tap Finish on the last screen.
  5. Pick your Ledger: Crucible searches for nearby devices. Tap your Ledger under My devices. When your phone asks to pair, check that the code matches the one on your Ledger, then tap Pair.
  6. Select an address: Choose the address you want to use. Tap See more address if you don’t see the one you’re looking for, then tap Confirm.
  7. Enter your password: When the Password sheet appears, enter your password and tap Continue.
  8. Finish up: Crucible shows “Connected, your Ledger is ready to use.” Tap Continue to get started.

Important: Crucible never asks for your Ledger’s recovery phrase. Your keys stay on the device, and anyone who asks you for the phrase is a scammer.

Quick fixes

  • “Bluetooth permission required”: Tap Open Settings, allow Bluetooth access for Crucible Wallet, then come back and tap Retry.
  • “Searching for devices” or “Still searching”: Check that your Ledger is unlocked, Bluetooth is on, and the Polkadot app is open. Keep the Ledger close to your phone.
  • “Ledger device locked”: Unlock your Ledger with your PIN, then tap Try again.
  • “Polkadot app is not open”: Open the Polkadot app on your Ledger, then tap Already opened it.
  • “Something went wrong”: Tap Try again. If it keeps happening, close and reopen the Polkadot app on your Ledger, tap Back, and start the connection again.
