Introduction to the Rewards Allocator

Overview

The Rewards Allocator helps you DCA (Dollar Cost Averaging) your TAO into subnets across the Bittensor network. Once you claim your staking rewards, it re-stakes them for you based on the strategy you choose, all from inside your own wallet.

How it works

Everything happens inside your self-custody wallet. The Rewards Allocator connects two types of staking:

Root staking: The most common way to hold TAO. It's stable and earns a consistent yield in TAO.
Subnet staking: Staking directly into specific subnets. This is where the Rewards Allocator builds your positions over time.

The flow looks like this:

Your Root stake earns rewards.
You claim those rewards in Crucible.
The Rewards Allocator re-stakes your claimed rewards into subnets.

Claim my rewards

On your Home dashboard, look for Rewards under Balances. This only appears when you have rewards available to claim.
Tap Rewards to open the Claim rewards screen. You'll see your total claimable amount and a list of validators.
Select the validator you want to claim from.
Review the claim details, including the network fee, then tap Confirm.

Once your rewards are claimed, the Rewards Allocator takes it from there.

Important: Every claim has a network fee. If your rewards are smaller than the fee, you'll see a Consider waiting warning, because the claim would leave you with less TAO overall.

One subnet at a time

Subnets have a minimum entry amount, which is the smallest amount of TAO needed to start a stake. To make sure every stake clears that minimum, the Rewards Allocator works through your list sequentially:

It sends your claimed rewards to the first subnet until the minimum is met.
Once that subnet is filled, it moves on to the next one, and so on.
This keeps you making steady progress, even with smaller reward amounts.

Pick my strategy

Choose how your rewards are distributed across the network:

Top 10: Your rewards go into a small, concentrated set of the top subnets.
Top 20: A balanced allocation across more subnets.
Top 50: Rewards are spread across many subnets, including smaller ones.
Custom: You pick a fixed list of subnets to allocate into.

The Top 10, 20, and 50 strategies follow the network rankings. When the rankings change, your list updates with them.

Is my TAO safe?

Yes. The Rewards Allocator is non-custodial, which means:

Your keys, your TAO: Your assets stay in your wallet at all times.
Rewards only: The allocator only moves the rewards you claim. It never sells your existing holdings or touches your principal TAO without your permission.
Total control: You can turn off the allocator or change your strategy at any time.

Common questions

Why isn't the allocator doing anything?
Check your Home dashboard for a Rewards balance. The allocator can only work with rewards you've already claimed.

How often should I claim?
That's up to you. It depends on how much you've accumulated and which validators you're claiming from. Compare your rewards against the network fee on the review screen, and wait if the Consider waiting warning appears.

Why do I see multiple validators?
If you stake with more than one validator, your rewards are listed separately for each. You can claim from each one individually.

Pro tip: You can use any amount, and the tool works best with around 15 TAO or more staked on Root. A larger stake builds rewards faster, so each claim comfortably covers its network fee and moves you toward a subnet's entry minimum sooner.
