Smarter Staking,
Powered by Core Alpha

Staking, your way.
With Crucible’s Smart Allocator, you choose how to grow your ROOT:

  • Core Alpha – our automated strategy that compounds rewards and deploys your stake across the top 20 subnets.

  • Custom – design your own allocation and control every move.

Stake ROOT. Choose your path. Capture alpha.

For the quickest allocation, we recommend allocating ~15T.

It’s also a non-custodial wallet, meaning you control your private keys and assets — not us or anyone else. Your funds stay in your hands, always.

The Smart Allocator is currently powered by one strategy: Core Alpha.
It auto-deploys your ROOT earnings (not your principal) into the top 20 subnets via a proxy wallet. This rebalancing against ROOT happens daily.

We have even built a simulator on our site that shows how Core Alpha would’ve performed for you. By using real past data, we compare how that same data would have performed allocated solely to ROOT. This gives you a true look at what could have been.

The first allocation is not instant — it depends on your reward rate — and recent network changes plus lower ROOT APY mean that building up to that first stake now takes longer than before. For faster allocation, we recommend ~15T.

Yes! You can find it here.

There are no hidden fees within Crucible.

There are standard transfer / transaction fees associated.

For the Smart Allocator there is a on-chain deposit fee ~.1T to create a proxy wallet. This will be returned to you once you close your proxy wallet. There is an additional 0.01 tao fee to fund the proxy account for proxy transactions.

We use Polkadot proxy accounts to help allocate on your behalf. This allows us to delegate without transferring control from the underlying account. For more information on how proxies work, check out the link from  Polkdadot here.

Setting Up Your Ledger Device with Crucible

Before you start, make sure you have:

  • A Ledger device (Nano X, Nano S Plus, Flex, or Stack)
  • The Crucible Wallet extension installed in your Chrome browser

1. Install Ledger Live

Download the Ledger Live app on your computer or mobile device. This is the official companion app for managing your Ledger device.

2. Connect Your Ledger Device

  • Plug in your Ledger device with the USB cable.

3. Set Up as a New Device

When Ledger Live detects your device, you’ll see two options:

  • Restore from recovery phrase (for existing wallets)
  • Set up as new device → choose this for a fresh start.

4. Generate Your Recovery Phrase

Your Ledger device will generate a unique 24-word recovery phrase.

  • Write it down on the recovery sheets provided.
  • Never store it digitally (no notes apps, no cloud, no screenshots).
  • This phrase is your one and only backup if the device is lost or reset.

5. Confirm Your Recovery Phrase

Follow the prompts on your device to confirm the words in the correct order.

6. Set a PIN Code

Choose a secure PIN to lock your device. This protects it from unauthorized access.

7. Open Ledger Live → My Ledger

  • In Ledger Live, click My Ledger (bottom left corner).
  • Allow the secure connection when prompted on your ledger device.

8. Update Your Firmware

  • Install the latest firmware to stay secure and up to date.
  • You may need to reinstall apps after the update — this is normal.
  • Repeat until your device is on the newest version.

9. Install the Polkadot App

  • In Ledger Live, search for Polkadot.
  • Install the Polkadot app directly onto your Ledger device.

At this point, your Ledger is fully set up and ready. Now let’s connect it to Crucible.

Connecting your Ledger to Crucible

  1. Plug in your Ledger device to your computer.
  2. Unlock your device by entering your PIN.
  3. Open the Polkadot app on your Ledger.
  4. In Crucible Wallet, click Connect Wallet.
    • You will be directed to a webpage where you can allow USB permissions. This ensures your Ledger device is discoverable by the Crucible Wallet.
    • Click “Connect Wallet”—this will grab your public key and ask you to name your wallet.
  5. Your Ledger is connected — you can now use Crucible Wallet with hardware-level security.

Core Alpha tracks the top 20 subnets and routes your rewards through a proxy wallet, which allocates those rewards.

*The daily allocation is based on how much TAO is allocated. For allocations to be seen within a week, it is recommended to use ~15T.

Chose a custom strategy to lean into the top 5 or the top 50.

Any amount of TAO is fine. However, our Smart Allocator works best when ~15+T is used to see allocations of your rewards within a couple of days.

Smart allocator brings exposure to the top subnets. Overtime, as the root proportion drops, so will the root dividends. Staking using core alpha will ensure your returns are based in alpha and not affected by the drop in root proportion.

No, at this time we do not unstake for you.

No, at this time the validator is the Crucible Labs validator. If CL is not a validator on that subnet, the tool uses the biggest available validator on that particular subnet.

Once you stake to Core Alpha, any additional stake to Root using the Crucible Labs validator on another platform will also count as part of your Core Alpha stake.

100% We’d be sad to see you go, but you can pull out if you aren’t getting what you thought. When you do close the allocator functionality with us, you will receive your deposit back from on-chain proxy wallet creation.

Please save this in a secure location, written on a piece of paper. We cannot recover your phrase for you.
